NASA Ames Research Program
A leader in nanotechnology, information technology, and space biology and biotechnology, Ames Research Center, one of 10 NASA Field
Centers, is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Conducting world-class research and development, Ames Research Center’s key goals are
to maintain expertise in aerospace, aeronautics, and information technology research and engineering, to conduct research in space, Earth,
lunar, and biological sciences, to develop lead status for NASA in small spacecraft missions, and pursue innovative, high performance and
reliable space exploration technology.
The Center’s current missions include leading the Kepler mission in search of extrasolar Earth-sized and smaller planets, a partner for the
International Space Station (ISS), and a partner for the Mars Curiosity Rover.
NASA Ames Research Center and KAIST signed a memorandum of understanding on Jan. 26, 2008, and have formulated a program in which
KAIST annually sends two Ph.D.’s as Visiting Researchers to the NASA Ames Research Center. Initially,
potential areas for collaboration were to be focused on small satellite research and development, but have now expanded to satellite communication, navigation systems, planetary exploration, lunar science, rovers, and
small satellite-related technology, as well as joint-hosting of workshops and seminars, and exchange of information and resources.
Since the program’s establishment, 12 post-doctorates have been deployed to NASA Ames Research Center.
The application period for the KAIST-NASA Ames Research Center Post-Doc Program is, usually, during the Fall Semester (early October
to November). Announcements can be found on the KAIST Portal – Announcement’s “Student Notice” section. (Application periods are
subject to change each year).
